Mission Statement and Membership Requirements
Tri-M consists of elite musicians united for a common goal. Our purpose is to utilize the musical talents of these dedicated students to enrich the community with music. Each member will encourage music in the community for people young and old while striving to challenge themselves and advance in the music world.

Events
The following is a listing of the major events that Smithtown West Tri-M holds throughout the year. More events will be announced as the year progresses, but these are the staples of Tri-M tradition.
Safe Halloween
Safe Halloween is an event hosted by Smithtown High School West where nearly every club and honor society in the school has a station with activities for the youths of Smithtown to enjoy. Tri-M is best known for greeting visitors as they enter and bidding them farewell as they exit with our small musical ensembles stationed near the doors.
Tri-M Dinner
Smithtown West Tri-M invites Smithtown East Tri-M to share a bountiful feast and engage in rigorous competition for the highly coveted Tri-M Cup. It's a fun night for Tri-M members, but, most importantly, it benefits the community as all guests are to bring canned food items for donation to the Smithtown Food Pantry (smithtownfoodpantry.org).
Rhapsody in Smithtown Blue
All of our talented musicians, primarily but not exclusively Smithtown West Tri-M members, gather for our annual Rhapsody in Smithtown Blue pops concert! Each year, the concert is used to raise money for a different charity or organization. Recent recipients include the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org), the Friends of Music of Smithtown (friendsofmusicofsmithtown.org), the ReesSpecht Life foundation (reesspechtlife.com), the Give A Note Foundation (giveanote.org), and the Trombone Shorty Foundation (tromboneshortyfoundation.org).
Smithtown Serenade
No matter how rewarding it may be to prepare and perform a NYSSMA solo, there's no denying that a great deal of stress also comes with it. With this event, Smithtown West Tri-M aims to ease the nerves of its members by affording them the opportunity to come to the school library and perform their solos in front of a crowd. Students consistently agree that performing a solo for a judge is much easier after having played it at Smithtown Serenade.
Book Fairs
Every year, Smithtown West Tri-M partners with Barnes & Noble booksellers for its greatest fundraiser, the book fair. At this event, Smithtown West Tri-M members take over a designated area of the store for an evening to spread the gift of music to the patrons, who are donating to Smithtown West Tri-M with a portion of every purchase.
